VELVET:: High End vs Trendy

via free people

There’s a true brawl going on inside me! For those of you who did not read my previous post-Velvet Is On My Mind, I am referring to my blogging dilemma; of whether my followers are interested in High-End Designer Fashion or the Trendy & Edgy stuff. And even within High-End, do you prefer the grungy look currently on stage?

Anyone slightly into fashion, or interested in relevance, must have noticed that we have 2 worlds or fashion spinning simultaneously: the designer world and the real world. Usually, we like to think of High-End, Luxury Fashion as the trend setter for the mainstream stuff you see in lower end brands, and this will always be the case to a certain extent.

However, more so now than ever, many of us are not dressing “HIGH-END” and if we are, we are bringing some nastiness to it.

Whether you will admit it or not, generally we are into some crazy stuff right now. I often prefer to look like I just rolled out of bed; of course I really didn’t (most of the time) and actual thought went into my chaos. Still; the hitch hiker look is often the goal. The point is, the messy bun is a trend, the cut of shorts are a trend, crazy platform shoes with spikes are a trend,  the muscle t-shirt with your bra showing and  some tit falling out of the side is a trend; AND I LOVE THIS TREND!!

To kind of hone it all in, I really want to know what ignites a reaction in you? Do you prefer to be the perfect socialite in designer threads head to toe, or are you into all this nasty, sick with it, fashion around us?

Velvet Is On My Mind

Carven via

As we get deeper into Fall, I can say it’s nearly acceptable for me to bring out the velvet. A trend we’ve been seeing up and down the runway this season, has recently made its debut in my heart. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve truly always loved velvet, I just kind of pushed it aside until now.  You have to keep in mind that I live in Miami, FL and I can’t just throw it on whenever I feel like it. I mean, I could, but it’s 80º outside.

You’ve seen many types of velvets this this Fall, such as those by  Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Lavin, Rachel Zoe. . . .But I must say these clean and simple looks by Carven make velvet look timeless. In comparison to, in example;  Emporio Armnai, who used velvet in a much more complicated way, the looks above will be in today as well as tomorrow. Who knows, you might get 12 months out of one of these .

If you’re not an experienced fashion risk taker I suggest you take this route in terms of what velvet you should buy into. Making something look good is about carrying it with confidence. Velvet is often dramatic in itself, so toning it down with a classic silhouette  is a good idea.

Now for the biggest dilemma of my week – I’m completely  torn on whether my readers prefer to read about High Fashion or are they more interested in Trendy & Edgy? So My solution is the following, I will show you both aspects of fashion; the $50 way and the $3000 way.

Look out  for my next post, where I will discuss a different side of velvet.

Must Have Sunnies:: Take The POLL

via Polyvore

There is no surprise that all of my picks above are derived from the 50’s and 60’s. Depending on how long you’ve been following me, you may already know how incredibly inspired I am by all things retro. I’m magnetically attracted to fashion from every era but my own, and with good reason! Just look at these frames previously used by fashionistas for decades. For many of us, these iconic silhouettes have helped  define our style more clearly and consistently enhanced our probably already inspired looks.

If  you haven’t so far, I encourage you to pick up a pair of Cat Eye or John Lennon inspired sunnies and explore them for yourselves.

As a consultant, I should be telling you which frames go best with what shaped face and so forth. However, in doing so, I would be implying that this trend is limited to many of you, as by the textbook definition; some of these frames are not suitable for all faces.  No need to worry about that.

Luckily for us all, there is such a vast assortment of retro inspired sunglasses out in the market right now, you will be sure to find a pair that suits your face perfectly. By simply dedicating the needed time to “trying on” you will notice how drastically one pair of ” Jackie O” sunglasses varies from the other.

Please take the time to answer the poll below and tell me how you feel about this trend.

2013 Trend:: Look Super Sexy Without Showing Everything

top to bottom:L’Wren Scott ss2013, Jenni Kayne ss2013, Victoria Beckham ss2013

I must admit, that I too have fallen victim to wearing the super sexy dress, that was just plain inappropriate! I think many times women get caught  up in trying to look a certain way for the boys, that we leave some of our classiness at home. In my opinion a women does not need to pull all the tricks out of the bag at once. Stay focused on showing a certain part of your body and work your entire outfit based on what you choose to accentuate. We live, we learn, and learn some more

I love short ! Just not the short, tube top and  9in heel combo.

The knee to calf length dresses shown above, are a huge trend for 2013 and in my opinion; brilliant. By simply incorporating a longer length skirt and unexposed neck, these VERY tight, body contouring dresses; have managed  to make the women wearing them look sexy yet sophisticated. All classiness included.

What do you all think?

I am LOVING Bottega Veneta:: Day & Night Looks

Let me introduce you to my ideal day & night looks.

I love the vintage feel portrayed  in Bottega Veneta’s SS 2013 collection, and am crazy about; what I call ” the perfect work look”-displayed to the left.

I work in Luxury Retail and always need to be somewhat dressed  up for the 9 to 5. The look above, I feel, is 100% in line with my style.

When it comes to the evening look; I personally would add a leather jacket to the cocktail dress and have it shortened.  As for the shoes; they are awesome and can be perfectly worn Day OR Night!

Tom Ford’s take on 50’s & 60’s fashion

LOVING these vintage inspired looks!

Tom Ford  incorporated some truly retro designs in his Spring 2013 RTW collection. He has tastefully brought back some of Americas iconic silhouettes, while still managing to  keep them relevant.

I deem Tom Ford: visionary of the new modern vintage.

Bohemian chic done brilliantly:: Saint Laurent Spring 2013

I am so excited about this collection! I would wear every one of these looks.

Lately I’ve been talking about BOHO style and the correct way to accomplish a chic look. Well let me say, Hedi Slimane; the new designer of Yves Saint Laurent, is brilliant!

Everything is so Ready To Wear unlike other designers. To be frank;  so many designers make me feel sometimes like they had nothing else to come up with. Some looks are so outrages, even if you created an event just for them, you still wouldn’t want to wear their product.

If this is what we can expect from Hedi Slimane, I think I might have a new favorite designer!!!
